In a video from the Deer Valley Unified School District School Board Meeting in February, “Republican” School Board President Paul Carver insults parents over a recent survey saying “We can’t get people to figure out the survey, it’s really disappointing” and calling parents “freaks at a circus” while he defends teaching Chinese Mandarin to American students. Carver goes on to repeat false talking point that the district is well run financially. These claims were disproved in a report from the Arizona Auditor General report highlighting DVUSD actually spends more money on admin costs than their peer districts and it’s rated as high by the auditor general. Additionally, the board has increased ADMIN spending per pupil from 2023 to 2024 by $104. Parents are leaving the district at a rate of 4.2% over the last 5 years.
